My thoughts on The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card

I just finished this book today, and I can't wait for the sequels. That's the only thing I hate about reading a new book.

It's basically about a kid who is from a line of gods -- they're the ones who all the mythologies are based on, only their powers have been diluted over the centuries while they've been trapped on Earth.

Everyone thinks he doesn't have any affinity for magic, until he finds himself in a place that he couldn't possibly have gotten to on his own. He's a gatemage, and possibly the strongest ever, except that gatemagery is forbidden, and anyone who's born a gatemage is killed.

This is where the simliarities to Jumper started. The kid can teleport, runs away from home, falls in with the bad crowd, etc.

Even with those slight misgivings, The Lost Gate was a fun read, and I can't wait for the sequels.

  6. There are other types of magic. Most of them deal with nature in some way, and have varying degrees of potency. Some are adept with the wind, or with stone, water, etc., able to manipulate it in any way they want if they are strong enough.
